The long winter nights are a good time for reading. I have compiled s list of books to read or reread that underline the rich cultural heritage of this corner of The World.

I thought this was set in the Scottish Highlands until Marianne and I came across a information board when walking on Exemoor.
As a kid I remember black and white documentaries about elver fishing in the River Severn. Living in Hatfield at the time it seemed as remote as the forests of the Congo.
I don't know any watery books set in Bath Bristol Devices area; ideas needed.
The Thames is possibly the river with the greatest number of literary connections, here's my pick.

loved these books, it will be interesting revisiting them. Kirrin was apparently based on Corfe Castle, which is decidedly inland.
